STUDIO CLASSES

Weekly classes 1-2 hours long for grades 1-12…

  • Class sizes are small to insure a safe and nurturing environment. This allows students to explore more freely as well as to receive individual attention.
  • Classes consist of improvisation games, scene study, movement, technique, character development, audition preparation, voice and diction, and an opportunity to build self-confidence
  • Family and Friends observation day will be during the last class of the session

Fairfield Performing Arts Studio Summer Camp consists of acting, singing, and dancing instruction! Campers are split into three groups, by age, and rotate to three different classes throughout the day. The camp provides a physically and emotionally safe environment to provide optimal conditions for growth and learning as both an actor and a person all while having a fun, exciting, and inspirational experience. A typical day consists of group warm ups and dance; acting classes, voice classes, and dance classes; a snack and lunch; improvisation and theater games; stage makeup and costuming; prop and set design art sessions; and of course, staging and rehearsing the musical.

For students looking for more in-depth training, Jennifer Kenny teaches specialized sessions. The curriculum is designed to provide actors with beginning and intermediate professional theatre training. Actors will focus on: monologue study, scene study, audition preparation, character development, sense memory, improvisation, dialogue, subtext, voice and diction, theatre vocabulary, and techniques necessary for professional or upper-level theatrical productions.

Testimonials

See what our students and parents have to say

  • I have been going to the FPAS summer camp since it began, and every year I get even more excited to go! I've really learned to be myself there by bonding with so many amazing people. This camp is where I first fell in love with acting, singing, dancing, and where I get to strengthen my skills by being challenged with some of the best counselors and the best cast mates. It truly is a great summer and life experience, I gained many friendships, supporters, and mentors through this camp. Thank you Jen and all the counselors for everything you've done for me!!

  • Dear Jennifer – I just wanted to shoot off a quick email letting you know that Annamarie really enjoyed herself tonight. Although hesitant at first, she went in with an open mind and thoroughly absorbed everything you taught. She wished that the class was longer and can not wait for next week. Thank you for your time and energy.

  • Hello Jennifer, I really like your acting class, and although I forgot my lines once and improvised, it is all around awesome. What I like most about your class is that you motivate us (along with your assistants) as hard as you can. And also I like that if we dislike our parts (like I didn’t want to be Mr. Smee), you always find a way to help us believe in ourselves and like the part. I also like the emotion games because it’s fun and it teaches me how to express myself on stage.

  • If you asked me nine months ago, "do you think that acting will help your shyness?" I would say that you’re crazy!  But it turns out that I was completely wrong and that taking these acting classes not only helped with my shyness but my confidence and creativity as well.  That is all thanks to Jennifer and FPAS!!

  • We have looked and looked for the best acting programs around. This one hit the mark! Caroline loves her acting class, and it has been a treat for everyone! We are definitely signing up for the next sessions. Every child in our class returned – that says it all!

  • Fairfield Performing Arts Studio has been a huge part of my life for five years. The three weeks of camp is always the highlight of my summer. Thanks to this camp, my acting, singing, and dance has improved dramatically, and the way the counselors teach keep all of us wanting to learn even more. I think I can speak for all the campers when I say this camp is an amazing opportunity to have a taste of acting on a professional stage. As soon as my first year there was over, I knew I'd want to keep returning. All the learning aside, it's also a friendly environment where everyone feels comfortable. I've made some incredible friends that are still returning to camp with me to this day. All in all, FPAS is an educational but fun experience that every new (or returning) actor/actress should try.

  • When my daughter booked her first Lead in a Feature Film, we did private lessons with Jennifer and she really helped Lindsey prepare for her role.  Her schedule was flexible, she was patient and enthusiastic and even patiently answered all of my questions!  Everyone on set was so impressed with how prepared Lindsey was for someone so young, and that is in great part thanks to Jennifer.  We came back again for private lessons to prepare for a Broadway audition, and I can’t say enough good things about Jennifer and Fairfield Performing Arts!

  • I LOVE FPAS! It's really fun getting to act, sing and dance every day! The best part is doing a full performance on a stage at the end, complete with costumes and sets. I really enjoy it and recommend it to anyone who wants to have fun learning about all the things that go into performing a show.

  • Abbi is excited to go to camp every morning and can’t wait to tell us about her day when I pick her up! Such a refreshing change from the traditional camp experience. I can see that this program is artistically enriching for all age levels, a self confidence builder, educational and at the same time loads of fun, with making crafts, games and the rehearsals! I love that the children are a part of this production from the ground up!

  • My daughter Anna has been attending Jennifer’s camp since it first opened, and there is nowhere she’d rather be during her summer break! Unlike other drama camps that Anna has attended, Jennifer creates an atmosphere of camaraderie amongst the campers, with everyone getting personalized attention in a safe and caring environment. She absolutely loves it!

  • At Fairfield Performing Arts Studio I learn acting, dancing and singing.  Before I went to FPAS I tried acting camps and classes, they weren't fun.  But when I went to FPAS my mind opend up to acting, singing, dancing and being on stage.

  • Jessica loves FPAS!  She loves you and your colleagues as teachers, loves the cast-mates that have become friends, and loves the camaraderie built among the summer campers.  That is why she has taken every school-year session since we have moved here, and can't wait to do both camps this summer! Many thanks for creating such a fun, inviting, and high-quality environment!

  • My son absolutely loves going to acting class at Fairfield Performing Arts Studio. Being his first real experience on “stage,” Jennifer helped him gain the confidence to perform all types of characters and emotions. Owen has made several new friends at FPAS from across the Fairfield elementary schools that all share common interests. As a parent, I love that he is learning to work together as a team and support each other to put together a performance in just a few short weeks. He can’t wait for summer camp and looks forward to many more memories and performances with FPAS!

  • My daughter has done classes with Jennifer and Fairfield Performing Arts for 3 years now and she always enjoys class and is sad when a session is over.  Jennifer has such a way with the children and they all blossom under her tutelage!  It is such a fun, low pressure but high learning environment, Jennifer has the formula down!  All of the children are so happy to be in that room for the hour!

  • Emma had such a great time yesterday – thank you for a great class.

  • Jennifer, I just want to thank you for running the best camp ever! Luke loves LOVES everything about your shows: the counsellors (especially Robbie), the material, the classes and rehearsals and the final performances. You have certainly given him a deep love of musical theatre. Thank you. Luke has made me promise that we will come back to Fairfield for a summer sometime in the future so that he can join your camp again. I will do my best....so here's hoping our paths cross again in a couple of years' time! Please pass on my congratulations and appreciation to your staff - they are an amazing group, truly inspiring. Thanks again and good luck with Peter Pan!
